Dog lovers seem to be so concerned regarding what type of foods to feed their best buddy. There are various reviews made about the type of foods to give your dogs. Right now, there are actually just two types. One is commercial, the other one is a raw dog food. You cannot decide what type to use if you are not equipped with the knowledge of both the good and the bad sides of raw feeding. This article will be beneficial to you in deciding which type is better because this will present both sides.

When you feed your pets with an uncooked food, you are actually doing the so called raw feeding. This is considered more nutritious than the commercial diet for dogs. It is believed that uncooked foods reduce natural foul odor and clean up the teeth of a carnivorous pet like dogs.

Thousand years ago, the dog ancestors fed themselves with another carnivores. It is thus rational for some dog lovers nowadays to feed their pets with raw meats. This is a natural thing for dogs before to eat fresh meats. However, natural feeding cannot always be associated with better feeding. In fact there is a big tendency that your buddy will become more prone to sicknesses because of course there are a lot of bacteria present in a fresh meat.

The preparation of commercial foods requires the application of heat to kill the bacteria present in fresh meats. However, the heat required is too high that may also destroy the proteins and vitamins in the meat. In order to replace the lost and destroyed nutrients, food manufacturers add supplements but this is not a guarantee.

Commercial foods contain grains which trigger allergies to your pets. When grains are heated, their primary structure is altered giving off another substance. This substance is found out to cause most of the reported dog allergies. Another thing is that grains are hard for dogs to digest since the digestive organs of carnivores are designed to digest more of meats rather than grains.

Commercial foods also have the tendency to stay in the teeth of a carnivore which allows bacteria to propagate. This will result to dogs having bad breath and sore gums. The worst thing to happen is bacterial poisoning which could kill your pet.

One good thing for commercial foods is that there are food regulations and associations which they need to abide that will ensure the quality and safety of your pets. Raw feeding on the other hand does not have this kind of regulatory associations.

The mouth of dogs are made to crush food not chew them and normally, raw feeding uses a whole fresh meat in feeding. This is not a very good thing because there is a possibility of dental breakage and fractures. Also, because dogs do not chew foods, they become more prone to intestinal obstructions.

It is still best that you have a consultation with your veterinary doctors. Let them check if the foods eaten by your bets friend have been properly digested. In the end it is still your choice that matters most. Whether you let your best buddy eat commercially available menu or a raw ones, have them checked every now and then with your veterinarians so that your bet pet will be kept safe always.

I’ve avoided and postponed writing this article about quarantine and rat care. The reason is the passing of our beloved Carmel on June 3, 2006. I’m still teary-eyed as I write this and even more painful is the knowledge that his suffering may have been prevented by proper observation of quarantine. This is crucial information if you wish to keep rats as pets.

Observing proper quarantine practices is essential to rat health when another rat is to be introduced into your household. It’s not like bringing in a puppy as a companion for old Fido. Your new pet rat may carry diseases particular to rats (but harmless to humans). The immediate introduction of other healthy-looking pet rats is extremely dangerous for your current rats and may ultimately be fatal.

I’m no vet or super rat expert, but I’ve learned the hard way that pet rats have very tender little lungs that are susceptible to nasty pneumonia-like illnesses that can result in death if not treated immediately upon infection. To prevent any possibility of such infections as much as you can, here are the necessary steps for a safe and effective quarantine:

1. Do not bring your new arrival into the home of your current pet rats. You must first find someone living in a separate building who is willing to house your pet rat during the quarantine period. If a new arrival shares airspace with your pet rats, even if just in the same house on different floors, they will become infected.

2. Do plan on a quarantine period of at least three weeks and no less. Many well experienced rat folk prefer to extend it to a full month. During that time, you’ll be watching for any signs of illness in your new rat: sneezing, red discharge in the eyes or nose, refusal to eat and lethargy. Should your new pet rat exhibit such symptoms, immediately contact a veterinarian in your area with experience in rat care. In my own case, Carmel’s sneezes were ignored until the disease had progressed to a more stubborn stage.

Signs of illness may include but are not limited to any of the following:

* Red secretions from eyes or nose
* Sneezing
* Wheezing
* Rough coat
* Labored breathing
* Lethargy
* Hunched posture
* Swelling on neck or body
* Abscesses
* Scabs or itching
* Diarrhea
* Constipation
* Lack of appetite
* Eye ulcerations, bleeding, or swelling
* Visual identification of parasites including lice nits
* Abnormal odor from the rat
* Abnormal smelling feces or urine
* Respiratory distress
* Head tilt or abnormal gait
* Thinness

3. Do not handle or touch another rat right after doing so with the quarantineed rat. Disease can be spread by contact as well as through the air just like the human cold virus. The consensus among those in the know is to change clothes and wash all areas of your skin that came in contact with the quarantineed rat. Better yet, handle them on alternating days when you’ve showered and dressed in clean, fresh clothes. Again, this is a rule we constantly broke due to our ignorance about proper rat care.

4. Do not allow others to touch the quarantineed rat. If one person does all the caretaking for your new pet rats, the chance of transmitting something is a lot less. The kids and the in-laws and the neighbors can all wait.

Seems like a big deal, doesn’t it? Your current pet rat is just that susceptible to outside diseases and your new rat is just that likely to spread exactly that. If you can’t make this kind of arrangement, don’t bother at all with getting another rat until your current ones have passed away.

Some more tips for keeping your pet rats in good health during quarantine:
# Avoid pet stores that sell rats.
# Do not handle rats at pet stores or shelters.
# Inform fellow rat fanciers that your pet rats are under quarantine.
# If you are exposed to outside rats, clean up as soon as you return home or wait awhile before going into your home. SDA and Sendai will only remain contagious when away from the host for approximately 3 hours. Go for dinner and a movie or visit friends.
# Avoid housing rats in areas where wild rats have access.
# Avoid taking your rats to rat inclusive events.
# Avoid constantly adding to your colony. It is safer to get rats less often and quarantine them well.

Long distance running could seem fairly simple at first glance but, specifically early efforts at longer distances, determining exactly how rapid or slowly to jog generally is a tad challenging. Particularly when you consider that adjusting your pace by way of just a couple moments can mean minutes towards your target time and beginning too fast can certainly completely smash your whole run. For the distance athlete tempo can be everything. Here are a few guidelines and tips on distance running for beginners

From a motivation standpoint I usually enjoy training with a partner. It seems to help me keep pace and there is additional safety when running with another person. I remember the first time I went jogging along with my aunt, an accomplished distance runner. At that certain time frame, she was better plus much more comfortable at a tempo which was slightly faster than me, though I was far better at distances, she would certainly out-pace me every time. Because our training pace was different we couldn’t run collectively until eventually I got speedier. The point is you’ll want to run at the pace that’s meets your needs. The trick is selecting the best speed.

On the whole you want to complete your long runs at a pace that sets you in the desired finish time for whatever occurrence you might be training for; or at a slightly slower speed than race pace. Decide your goal time and work backward from there. I don’t advocate working on speed and distance at the same time. Split these in a couple of workout routines. Speed work is a different animal which is trained for in a different way when compared with endurance; also it gives your schedule some change that will keep it from getting stale.

Though I enjoy having a running partner, from time to time, I don’t like talking to anybody while we train. I usually enjoy zoning out and tuning into my iPod music, or targeting perfecting small things like my breathing and foot strike. Beginning runners can use another commonly held technique that may help you evaluate your pace. If you cannot converse a couple of phrases to someone in the relaxed manner, it’s likely that you’re jogging way too rigorously. This running exercise will seem amusing if you don’t have a buddy along with you so prepare yourself to get honked during. In the event you become winded conversing then reduce your jogging until finally it is easy to talk, or simply walk at a higher speed until the breathing returns to normal.

You shouldn’t be scared to take walk breaks should you be focusing on a target time frame. The idea usually is simpler to cycle these types of out than intensify in velocity. Test out both the approaches and apply what’s the most effective to your program.
