There was a time when our forefathers lived quite a healthy lifestyle. They were stronger, they were more agile, they did not fall ill so often. Their life involved far more exercise and less idling. That made them very strong and kept them going.

Now fast forward to the 21st century. Our lifestyles have completely changed thanks to the progress we have made technologically. We are more lazier and have too many things to do that we do not have time to do anything else.

Do you find yourself in this situation? Well, I did. I was working more than 40 hours a week trying to raise a family of 5. I had no time at all. No time for myself, no time for my kids, no time for my husband. I returned from work so tired that I could barely sit down with my family to discuss their day.

What was it that I did for work? I was working doing data entry jobs. I have sit a lot to do my work. I sit mostly all day at work. Not an easy job by any means but the sitting meant less exercise or no exercise at all. All I did was get up, get dressed and drive myself to work. No exercise whatsoever. I put on so much weight I was ashamed to visit my local stores. I couldn’t even take my kids out during my off days.

It was time to do something about my situation. But what? I thought hard about it. I knew there were so many diet programs out there that promised to help you lose weight quickly. But I did not have any one who had successfully used any of such program. Out of sheer luck, a friend of mine happened to be secretly using a program that was helping her lose weight. She told me about it and said it was name Body Gospel. I was not sure if I heard right. Body gospel, I muttered.

I was enthused about what my friend showed me. How bad could it be? I asked myself.

I would be having fun and losing weight at the same time. I signed up and purchased my own set of the Body Gospel program and I was able to lose 40 pounds! I feel happy about myself again.

Fat loss programs that focus on diet can truly help in losing body fats within a given time frame. Weight loss programs that are diet centered however usually provide temporary satisfaction to dieters. Hence, such wellness programs are not advisable for individuals aspiring for lasting wellness

This is because diet regimens don’t have the ability to make people stick long enough to their goals, particularly in losing weight. Partly, we can’t blame them for giving up before experiencing real results.

A holistic approach to keeping in shape means eating the right food, taking in the right amount of nutrition needed by the body, doing regular exercise and staying both emotionally and mentally fit.

Anyone can tell that it is not only the food deficit or the excessive availability of foods that affects our health. The way we think and feel towards the things or events around us do affect our overall wellness. Moreover, there are health issues that have something to do with genes.

It therefore makes sense to regulate not just the intake of foods high in sugar and calorie. It is equally important to guide our perspectives and our attitude so it will be easy to condition the mind and the body to go for a health conscious eating lifestyle.

Present generation has shorter lifespan for human. It is because more people are now having bad health condition. Other reason is pollution which can cause illnesses that may lead to death. Therefore, most of the people are getting aware in their own wellness.

Many people make a big thought of joining a gym. Most of them do not have spare time or budget for additional expenses such as membership fee. Then there are people who are already observing good healthy diet and workout, so joining a gym is not an option.

However, if you have troubles in keeping your health and exercise routine, joining a gym is highly recommended. The following cases will help you in deciding to go to a gym.

1. In the gym you will see people with the same goals as yours, like losing or gaining weight, building muscles, wanting to get fit, etc. Being part of an environment with common goals, you become more driven in achieving for those goals and so you will execute your exercise routine on a regular basis.

2. Necessary equipments for your exercise are available to you in the gym. If you are exercising at home, your equipment is limited. Thus, the type of exercise you can execute is also limited. However, if you will buy all the required equipments for your exercise, you have to spend a lot of money. In gym, there are already available equipments like free weights, cables, machines, etc. that you can use.

3. In gym, there are professionals like personal trainers available if you want to enquire questions about the proper way of exercising. You can also ask them to present a certain workout utilising specific equipment.

4. You can discover other workouts by watching other people exercising. Seeing other people do exercise can give you points on how to do it. You can also watch if it is manageable by you or better not try it.

5. Going to a gym can get you formulate a routine. If you go to gym on a regular basis, definitely you do your workout routine. Unlike when you are at home, you can do other things instead of exercising.

6. In gym you can concentrate on your exercise, not that much distraction. When you are at home, there are other things to manage. If there is a visitor, you just can’t leave him alone and do your workout. Then, if you have kids, it’s very difficult to concentrate on your exercise if you have to look for them.

Hoodia Gordonii, known as the ‘Bushman’s Hat’ and ‘Queen of the Namib’, is a flowering plant native to Southern Africa. It belongs to the Apocynaceae family. It grows to a height of a meter and has tan or purple color flowers that have a strong smell. The natives call the plant Khoba, Ghaap and Xhooba. The plant is found in the semi-deserts of South Africa, Namibia, Botswana and Angola. It is a plant that is specifically native to the Namib Desert.

The San Bushmen who inhabit the Kalahari Desert have always known about the various uses of Hoodia. They are known to consume the stems of Hoodia plant during the long drawn hunt that takes them far away often without sight of food for days. The plant suppresses their urge to eat and drink. They also use the plant for treating various other health problems such as severe abdominal cramps, diabetes, hemorrhoids, hypertension, tuberculosis and indigestion. There are varieties of Hoodia plants, about twenty of them. of them, it is only Hoodia Gordonii that is found to contain hunger. The plant flowers after about five years.

The outside world came to know about the use of hoodia when a Dutch anthropologist reported it in 1937. But it was not until 1963 that scientist began to examine this. The scientists of CSIR (Council for Scientific and Industrial Research), the national laboratory of South Africa, along with the scientist of Phytopharm, a British company, conducted various studies. They were also able to identify and isolate its principal ingredient, a steroidal glycoside, which they named it as p57. Later it began to be sold in the liquid and capsule form all over the world. It gained popularity as Hoodia p57. Hoodia is found to suppress appetite when it sends signals to the brain that strongly suggests that the stomach is full. This kills the appetite making the obese people to eat less.

The extensive harvesting of Hoodia has led Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) to include it in the list in Appendix II. This means that Hoodia stands the risk of it being declared as an endangered species if its trade is not effectively controlled. It was listed in 2008 by the Botanic Gardens Conservation International as being threatened with extinction due to over-extraction. Hoodia is now cultivated in the government controlled farms in the Kalahari Desert. Royalty is also now shared with the San Bushmen.

Nature gives us almost everything that we need. That is why, nature should be used up badly.
