The production and growth of muscles comes from protein. Protein is found mainly in nut products, dairy and, mostly, in meat. Protein is the most important part of a body builder’s diet and something that you will have to eat to succeed as a bodybuilder. Exercise is the catalyst that helps your body to utilize the protein from your food, turning it into healthy strong muscle tissue. Protein rich foods such as Chicken, Tuna, eggs and lean red meat will be where your body draws most of the protein it needs for new muscle growth. These foods have a down side though, as well as being extremely rich in protein they are also sources of trans fats which are not essential and promote cholesterol within the body. The best times to have a protein shake are first thing in the morning and right after a good workout, so it’s okay to fussy about the brand of shakes you choose. You have to be careful when choosing a brand of protein shake as most shakes are less than 90% adequate for your needs. With so many products on offer it can be easy to get lost in the crowd, so asking a professional trainer for their opinion on which products they would recommend is a great way to narrow down your search.
To fuel your body with energy you need both simple and complex sugars, known as carbohydrates. It is worth noting that if eat more carbs than your body can burn the surplus will be stored as fat. Whilst cutting out carbohydrates altogether is not what you want to do it is best to makes sure that you keep an eye on the amount of carbs you are taking on during your training. Counting you carbohydrate intake may not be the most interesting thing in the world but it will help you to achieve the goals you have set yourself, you want bigger stronger muscles not fat. You need energy to train that is a simple fact, carbohydrates give you that energy so removing them from your diet is bad all you need to do is make sure that you don’t go carb crazy. How fast you can absorb and use carbohydrates depends on how fast your body’s metabolism is. If you think that you would benefit from and increased of decreased intake of carbs it is wise to discuss it with your personal trainer who can give you a clearer view of what you need to be doing.
